Private Charles Copland trained with the 186th. Battalion, going overseas with this unit the latter part of March 1917. In England he transferred to the Heads-quarters Signal Canadian Engineers, Bramshott Camp.

Regimental number: 880603, CE. Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box: 1983-36, ITEM: 116358, PDF: B1983-SO36. Born at Fasubourgh, Scotland, 19/07/1897. The son of Mrs. Mary Copland, 206 Richmond St., Chatham. She would have a number of addresses: 20 Finch St., 164 Murray St., Stanley Ave., and 201 1st St. Chatham, ON.  

Charles was single, listed as a carpenter. At enlistment he was 18 yrs. 9 mts. old, Height: 5’ 10”, Girth 33”, Complexion: Fresh, Eyes: Blue’Grey, Hair: Dark Brown 

He trained at Camp Borden Sept. 13/1916 prior to leaving for England 

Attestation: 6/04/1916 at Chatham, On. to the 186th O/S. Batt.  Embarked at Halifax, NS. Boarded the S.S. Lapland 25/03/17 departed 28/03/17. Debarked at Liverpool, England7/04/17. Reported at segregation Camp – Bramshott, England. It appears that Charles was attached to the CE 

As often happened  Charles was admitted to Cherryhinton Military Hospital – Cambridge. He was admitted 30/11/18. He had noticed a sore on his private parts. The standard treatment was with .6 Galyl and 2 hg. cream recorded for VDS. He was then treated for 5 months, the standard Wagserman program and was negative after five months, it was assumed 5-6 moths for treatment.     

He was discharged 8/08/19 No.1 District Depot 21/12/18.
