Private P.S. Conibear enlisted with the 48th Highlanders for overseas August 1914, arrived in England October 15th, 1914 and remained there till February 1915, when he went to France and joined the 15th. Battalion.
He was taken prisoner at the 2nd battle of Ipres April 24th, 1915 and went to hospital suffering with gas poisoning, he remained there six weeks and was then sent to Gottingen Camp for 2 weeks, then to Cell for 1 week. Went from there to Berenrode Salt mines for 3 years and 5 months, then 1 month in Hameln and repatriated to England, remained there for 7 months, thence to Canada for Discharge.
Discharged at Halifax August 13th, 1919 due to demobilisation, Category B.2.
