Born 1912 in Chatham, ON., the son of Major. and Mrs. William A. Coltart. The husband of Barbara McNaughton (nee Glenn) of 380 King St. West, Chatham. The father of Peter Coltart.
Lieut. Coltart enlisted with the First Kent’s when the unit mobilized. He trained in Chatham, London, Halifax, Niagara Falls, New Westminister BC. and Terrace, BC. He was transferred to the Army Service Corps – Western Command.
Prior to the war Lieut. Coltart served with the 2nd Batt. Canadian Machine Gun Corps from 1933 – 36 and with the Kent Regt. 1936 – 40. He enlisted 26/07/1940 with the 1st Kent Regt. Was promoted to Captain and served the war in Canada only.
The CDN 17/04/43 reported that Lieut. Coltart and wife who have been living on the west coast arrived in Chatham were visiting family until Easter.
In January of 1944 the Lieut. his wife and their infant son Peter arrived in Chatham from Vancouver. Lieut Coltart was being stationed at Camp Borden on a three month course. Mrs. Coltart and baby Peter would be staying at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Chester Glenn of King St. West, Chatham. CDN 6/01/44
In March 1944 Lieut Coltart who had been stationed at Camp Borden. He would spend a fortnight with his family before leaving for the west coast along with his wife and baby son. CDN 13/03/44
Lieut. Coltart was reported in the CDN 1/06/44 due the sudden death of his mother. Also at home for the funeral his sister Mrs. W. M. Brown of Brownwood, Texas, USA was also in Chatham.
The CDN 3/07/44(P) reported that he was promoted to the rank of Captain. “His promotion comes as a fitting reward for his splendid service and in the active army.
