Resident Tilbury

Born in Tilbury, ON. the son of Son of Philias and Mary Cloutier, of Poplar St., Tilbury, Ontario. Rudolph attended St. Francis school in Tilbury Besides his parents he was survived by two brothers, Sgt. Raymond Cloutier in the RCAF and Edgar.

Rudolph enlisted in January of 1940 at Toronto, ON., going overseas in May of 1940.

An undated Tilbury newspaper reported “ Sgt. Rudolph Cloutier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philias Cloutier, Poplar Street, Tilbury is officially reported Missing In Action this month.”

Age: 24, KIA – Date of Death: 05/12/1944, in Italy.

Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead, Grave/Memorial Reference: I, C, 4.

Cemetery: VILLANOVA CANADIAN WAR CEMETERY.

The CDN 30/12/44 reported that a “large congregation” of St. Francis R.C. church in Tilbury gathered to pay a final tribute to Sgt. Cloutier.  Beside his parents his two brothers Edgar and Sgt. Raymond and their wives were also in attendance. The The Tilbury branch of the Canadian Legion (R.E.S.L), the Tilbury Compnay of the second Kent, Tilbury Lions – Air Squadron and the IODE were also represented.
