Private Ernest J. Clements trained with the 186th. Battalion until this unit went overseas, but owing to illness was left in Canada. On his recovery he transferred to London, going to England in April 1917, where he joined the 119th. Battalion training as a stretcher bearer.
Arrived in France March28th, 1918, taken sick with trench fever and shell shock June 7th 1918 and was sent to the Basingstoke Hospital June 19th, to Epsom Con. Camp July 12th, Epsom Man of War august 29th, 1918, Orpington September 9th, 1918.
Left for Canada January 14th, 1919, on arrival he had two weeks leave and then went to College Hospital Toronto until discharge.
Discharged June 25th, 1919, two weeks later took sick and was sent to Guelph Hospital and remained there until discharged September 12th, 1919.
