Departed Halifax 26/04/16 aboard the S.S. Lapland. Disembarked at Liverpool 5//05/16
Pte. Clarke left London for overseas Good Friday, 1916, and after training in England proceeded to France in August.
Arthur had been admitted to the Moore Base – Sheliffe afer 10 days 5/05/16 he had the Mumps. Admitted to hospital 13/05/16 His right cheek swollen due to Parotiditis. for the Military Base Hospital. He was hospitalized for a total of ten days.
Note: Parotitis is an infamation of one or both parotid glands, the major salivary glands located on either side of the face in humans – most commonly affected by inflammation. Most often caused by a bacteria infection.
His Military Will was for his mother Mrs. A. T. Clark dated 27/08/16.
10/07/16 he transferred to the 39th Batt. at Shorncliffe. 10/07/16 he transferred to the 18th Batt 28/08/16, He joined the unit in the Field 10/09/16. He was wounded In Field 3/10/16 an was (WIA / MIA) as noted.
Word was received that Pte. Clarke was reported missing Oct. 3, 1916.
5/03/17 he was “Missing – now for official purpose presumed to have died 3/10/16. He had been TOS with the 18th 17/09/16 – WIA. Medals & Dexorations – Scroll & Plaque to his father and the Memorial Cross to his mother 11/04/20
