The CDN 15/05/43 reported that he was training in Kingston and was on a weekend leave to his home in Chatham. His father was on leave from the west coast at this time.
John served in the 1st Great War with the 34th London Battery and with the 14th Montreal Regiment.
It was reported that John had arrived in Chatham 28/05/42 from New Westminister, BC. where he was stationed with the First Kent Regiment.
The Chatham Daily news reported that he was on furlough for a few days to see his wife in Chatham Twsp. and his mother in Wyoming, ON CDN 27/05/42.
The CDN 17/04/43 reported that Signalman Chivers of Vimy Barracks had spent the weekend at his mothers Mrs. J. W. Chivers in Chatham while on a weekend leave.
