Private Gordon A. Chittim left Canada April 24th, 1917, and after five weeks training in England, he proceeded to France June 26th, 1917. During the engagement at Passchendale, Private Chittim was wounded November 9th, 1917, and admitted to to Brimingham Hospital, England, November 23rd, and again to Epsom Convalescent Hospital December 19th, 1917. He returned to France April 16th, 1918 and rejoined his old Battalion. He was again wounded August 28th in the Arras Front and arrived in England October 17th, 1918.
Departed for Canada on July 1st, 1919.
Discharge at London from Western Ontario Military Hospital December 9th, 1919 due to being medically unfit for service. On his record, it states that he was injured and needed an amputation.
