Carter, John Ross

 

Born in 1913 at Clinton, ON. He was the son of  Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Carter of Clinton, ON. The husband of Lyla Carter of 120 Murray St., Chatham.

It was reported that Captain Carter along with Lieut. It was reported in the CDN 30/09/42 that Mrs. Carter along with their daughter Elizabeth had spent the past six months at New Westminister, BC. Captain Carter was serving with the First Kent Regt. while in BC.

Major Ross of the Winnipeg Grenadiers was reported home on leave to visit his wife and children at their 120 Murray St. home in Chatham in January of 1944. Previously attached to the First Kent  (Active), he was serving on the west coast when he received his majority.

Reported returned from overseas 29/03/45.

Ross served 3 ½ years in Canada and overseas in Kiska, Alaska with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and in England where he was promoted to a Major.  Captain Carter was reported on a two weeks leave in Chatham in 1944. CDN 8/01/44. He was discharged from the army 29/11/1945. IODE(P), KCFA 25/10/45.
