Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box: 1537-48, Item: 90595, PDF: B1537-S048. 149th Batt.  Born 17/09/1899 at Paulersbury, Northhants, England. The son of Edgar and Amy Carswell, living at R.R.#2 Thamesville, Kent Co., ON. A single farmer living at home. 5’6”, Eyes: Blue, Complexion: Fair, Hair: Brown. In his record a change of address to 46 Howe St., Chatham was recorded 22/02/18.

Attestation: 15/02/1916 at Florence, ON. age 17 years to 149th Batt., transferred to 25th Reserve Batt. Embarked at Halifax 25/28/03/17 aboard the S.S. Lapland. Arrived in England 7/04/17 at Liverpool.

Recruit Carswell was in good physical shape save a abscessed tooth 4/07/16 and a bout of the mumps on 20/01/17 and was cured.

He left Canada, aboard S.S.Lapland and arrived in England 20/04/1917. 

Signaller Roland K. Carswell trained with the 149th. Battalion, going overseas with this unit March 23rd, 1917. He left Canada, aboard S.S.Lapland and arrived in England 20/04/1917.  He qualified as a signaller at Bramshott in November 1917. He was transferred to the 25th Canadian Reserve April 8th, 1917, transferred to 4th Canadian Reserve February 28th, 1918, proceeded to France and transferred to 18th Battalion.

Pte Carswell was TOS (Taken On Strength) 20/04/17 to the 25th Batt. at Bramshot in England. This would be for training. He then was transferred to 4th Reserve Batt. SOS (Struck Off Strength) and sent to the 18th Batt. 23/02/18. Transferred to France to the 18th Batt. in the field 9/04/18.

After the Armistice 11/11/18, Kenneth was given a 14 day leave. 13/05/1919 he was SOS for Canada from Witley. He sailed from Liverpool 14/05/1919.

Discharged at London May 24th, 1919 due to demobilization.

Ken was also found in the Thamesville Herald Centennial Issue and in the 18th Battalion Assoc. book of 1951.
