Carswell, Kenneth R

 

The son of R. K. and Mary Carswell of Lowe Street, Chatham, ON. Born 1920. The brother of Roger (J39283 RCAF) and Douglas. The husband of Dorothy (nee Spence). The father of David S., R.R. Scott and Thomas E.     

Before enlisting in the RCAF, Kenneth appears on the 2nd Kent Regt. “Muster Roll” A470135. Kenneth was reported home from RCAF Hagersville No.16 training base on a four day leave to visit his parents CDN 21/03/42.

Served with Air force ground crew looking after equipment in Canada for four years and eight months. Stationed at Hagersville, Dunnville, St. Thomas, Aylmer, Trenton, Quebec, Moncton N. B. and back to Trenton and Hagersville. He was later promoted to Corporal.

In July of 1942 Kenneth was stationed at No.16 S.F.T.S. Hagersville when he was on a week-end leave to visit his parents CDN 6/07/42.

It was reported in the CDN 14/09/42 that Ken, along with LAC Proctors, were spending a weekend at the home of Ken’s parents.   The CDN 12/06/43 reported that LAC Carswell was still at Hagersville  and his brother AC Roger Carswell was stationed at Belleville. The two were visiting with their parents at the Lowe St. home. 

The CDN 4/10/43 reported that Cpl. Carswell still at No.16 S.F.T. S. – Hagersville, he was on a week-end leave with Miss Aiva Greenslade of Port Dover were at his parents home on Lowe St.  The CDN 11/12/43 reported that LAC Carswell his parents and attened the “Wings Parade” at RCAF-Crumlin when Roger Carswell graduated as a Navigator and was commissioned with the rank of Pilot Officer.   

In February of 1944 Ken was reported stationed at RCAF-Hagerville when he was home on a furlough. The CDN 17/06/44 reported that Cpl. Caeswell was stationed at RCAF No.6 S.F.T.S. Dunnville for a weekend with his family.   CDN 18/02/44 Ken was stationed at RCAF-Trenton, ON. when he was on a Christmas leave to visit his parents CDN 23/12/44.

Discharged on October 4th, 1945.

After the war Ken worked at the Stratford Beacon Herald Newspaper. He was involved in Scouting for 35 years and was Commissioner of Scouts in Chatham, ON.

Kenneth passed away 25 October, 1999 at the age of 79 years. Interment at Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, ON.
