Private Thomas Carpenter qualified as a bomb throwing instructor in London. He was promoted to Lance Corporal, and later to Corporal, going overseas with the 186th Battalion on March 26th, 1917. After training at Bramshott, he was promoted to Sergeant, and sent to Bexhill-on-Sea as a bomb throwing instructor for the Boy’s Battalion. Six months later, he returned to Bramshott Camp as instructor to the Boy’s Battalion there.
