The MS 31/07/41 reported that Charles has been called up to begin training at BTC No.12 – Chatham. Charles was on a week-end  leave. MS 28/08/41.

While overseas in 1944 Charles wrote the following to the Merlin Community Club:

7 April, 1944.

“Today I received your most welcome gift of chocolates and I want to send my most sincere thanks to you one and all, for what you have done for me.

Everything is going along swell with me, and I am feeling te very best.
