Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Buschemeyer of 28 Alfred St., Chatham, ON., formerly of Cedar Springs, ON.

Charles as wounded in both legs  (his right knee and left leg were the worst)  while in action on 28 August, 1944. Writing to his parents 9/01/1945 Charles reported that his legs were “healing nicely and he will not suffer any permanent injury”. He had recently undergone more surgery on his leg to remove some shrapnel that was lodged there. Besides the shrapnel the surgeon removed a piece of his uniform, weed seeds and some dirt that was lodged there. He expected to be confined to a ‘fracture bed for another four months. While confined to bed he had learned to knit and sew and had knitted himself a pair of mitts. CDN17/1/45.
