Had previous Military Experience during March 1939 to July 1940 First Kent Regiment.

Served in Canada for two years. Went overseas with R.C.R. and served in Sicily  and Italy. Was a war prisoner for three months. Released and fought on Gothic Line, and wounded.

Discharged November 28th, 1945.

His connection with the military would begin in 1938 at the age of fifteen when he joined the Kent Regiment (Reserve). In July of 1940 the Kents would mobilize for active service and George would be number 20 to sign up. George would remain with the Kents until February of 1942 he was still with the First Kents in August of 1942 when he returned to Chatham from New Westminister to spend a furlough with his parents. He volunteered to go overseas and transferred to the Royal Canadain Regiment.

The RCR part of the Canadian 1st Division (Redpatch Devils) that would invade Sicily on 10 July, 1943 and Italy 3 September, 1943 part of the British Eight Army. George would spend two years in the front lines covering all of Sicily and Italy, including famous battles of Monte Casino and Ortona. and on the Gothic Line (25 Aug. to 17 Dec. 1944) the final main German defensive line in northern Italy.

On the night of 17 February, 1945 in a position near Lake Camachio Georges platoon was overrun by the enemy and with sixteen other would be taken Prisioners of War. He would be held by the enemy for ten weeks before the Armistance was declared and was released 4 May, 1945, his 23rd birthday.He was taken to an American base and from there he was returned to England. Of the 759 men of the RCR original invasion force George was one of the 33 survivors of the original invasion force. George was reported returning from overseas in October 1945. CKFA 25/10/45.

George would return to Canada, marry Marion Edna, his wife for 64 years. They would have two children a son Darryl George and a daughter Janice Margaret. He would be a sales manager for Simoniz Wax and a financial advisor for London Life Insurance Co. A member of Branch 255 Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Windsor Yacht Club.

George passed away 10 Arpril, 2012 in Windsor, ON.
