Sergeant Fred R.Burnie left Chatham with the 186th. Battalion, March 22nd, 1917, and after a short training at Bramshott Camp, proceeded to France with the first draft of the 186th. Battalion, June 6th, 1917, transferring to the 18th. Battalion, and reverting to Private. he remained with that unit until demobilised except for 10 days when he was wounded.
Discharged at London due to demobilisation May 24th 1919.
