Pte. Burleigh trained in London with the 70th battalion going overseas Apr. 26, 1916.

He proceeded to France with the first draft of the 186th Kent battalion, June 6, 1917 transferring to the 18th battalion.

At the Battle of Lens, July 9, 1917, Pte. Burleigh received eight wounds – a severe on in his back causing death.
