Private Robert M. Buckingham transferred from the 91st to the 186th Battalion when he was promoted to Sergeant in the Orderly Room. He left with this Battalion for England during the latter part of March. He trained at Bramshott Camp and in September, he was transferred to Witley Camp. On March 28th, 1918, he reverted to Private and crossed to France. He was posted to the 58th. Battalion, Canadians.
It was reported that Pte. Buckingham was wounded in the leg 28 June, 1918 and had been confined in hospital in England during which he underwent three operations to remove shrapnel. The CDP 4/06/1919 indicated that Robert was on a hospital ship returning to Canada and he was expected to arrive in Chatham soon.
