CDN 289. Sgt. Eric Harvey A470025, appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown) as a Sgt. ‘A&T Staff’. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brown of 98 Jeffery St., Chatham. The brother of Gerald who was serving in the RCNVR on the Veteran’s Guard. Prior to the war, he was employed at the American Pad & Textile in Chatham.
Eric enlisted in 1940 with the 1st Kent Regiment, rapidly promoted to Sergeant, A470025.
The CDN 8/04/43 reported that Sgt. Brown had rejoined the Kent Regt. (Active) after a few days visit with his parents before returning to the West Coast.
He received a commission as a Lieutenant while still with the Kents, and then moved on to British Columbia. Lieut. Brown volunteered to be transferred to the Imperial Army under the Can/Loan agreement. He received his captaincy while on active service in France (CDN 30/08/44) and a field promotion to Major in Germany.
Since V-E Day, Major Brown had been serving with the British Army units in occupied Germany with the Bedford Regt.; one of General Montgomery’s favourites from the African campaign and then with the Monmouthshire Regiment. While serving in Normandy, Major Brown had the honour of being presented to King George VI.
It was reported in the Chatham Daily News that Major Brown’s wife had been residing at her home at River Mead Branch, Grindrod BC. and would be joining her husband in Chatham at 88 Jeffery St. CDN 10/09/45(P). He was reported to have from overseas duty aboard the transport S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam and arrived at Halifax, NS. CDN 29/09/45.
