The son of Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Brisco of 142 William St., Chatham, ON, and the brother Bill who was serving in Italy. He attended Queen Mary School and the Chatham Collegiate Institute. After his education in Chatham, Ernest attended the University of Toronto to take a course in Engineering.
Ernest was reported to have obtained his Officer’s Certificate from the Defense Minister Ralston at the Brockville Officers Training Centre on 7 November. CDN 18/11/42(P), he was among 336 graduates along with C.E. Stewart and M. G. Wallace also from Chatham. CDN 7/11/42
The CDN 21/06/43 reported that Lieut. E. C. Brisco had arrived overseas according to word received by his parents. It was with a company of Canadian Engineers that he went overseas in 1943.
Trained at Toronto, Brockville and Petawawa. He went overseas to England May 1943. He was off to Africa in September 1943, and to Italy in December 1943. He served as a survey officer in R.C.A. until May of 1943. He was transferred to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in May 1943 while he was still in that capacity with 11th Infantry Brigade, 8th Army in Italy. He remained with this unit throughout the Italian campaign. He moved to North West Europe with the first Canadian Corps in March 1945. Upon the breakup of the fifth division, Ernest returned home in January 1946.
