The son of Robert and Mary Ann (nee Hewer) Bricknell. The brother of Walter and Fred and Alice (Mohershaw), Evelyn (Singleton) of England.

Arthur had resided in Tilbury since 1907 when he and his wife Charlotte (nee Beards) and family (including Arthur Robert Jr. and daughter Emma) immigrated from Derby, England. Arthur had served in the Boar War in South Africa.

Private Arthur Robert Bricknell served as a volunteer for four years with the 1st. Battalion, Sherwood Foresters Derbyshire Regiment.

Private Arthur Robert Bricknell left Canada for overseas June 2nd, 1916. He was transferred from the 919th. to the 35th. Battalion at West Sandling, and was pronounced by a Medical Board in September 1916 as unfit for active service. He was returned to Canada September 30th, 1916.

Private Arthur Robert Bricknell received his discharge November 1917 as a result of being disabled due to training.

Arthur sr. passed away 22 November, 1949 with internment at McDowell Cemetery, Tilbury West.
