Born in 1912 at Windsor, ON. the  son of Mr. and Mrs. John Baniffif, of Tilbury, ON.;

Jim enlisted with the Essex Scottish in Windsor, ON. in September, 1939. In April of 1941 Jim had a two weeks furlough to visit his parents he returned to his Regiment. TT 4/04/41, returning to his regiment in Windsor TT 17/04/41. In May of 1942 James was reported to be CQMS. With the Canadian Fusillers then stationed at Niagara-on-the-Lake and was on a short furlough to visit his father. TT21/05/42. In September of 1941 James was on leave from the Essex Scottish to visit his home. TT 4/09/41Afa: TT 21/09/39, 17/10/39, 8/08/40, 4/09/41, 30/10/41, 20/11/41.
