The son of Lieut.-Col. A. E. Bradley and Mrs. Bradley of Victoria Ave., Chatham.
Robert was born in Chatham, ON. The son of Bruce and Marjory (nee Sigler) Bradley of Jeanette’s Creek. The brother of David was in Manitoba with the RCAF The husband of Mary C. (nee Keil). They had two sons: Robert Bruce and Brock. Robert was a graduate of CCI.
Robert enlisted with the First Kents as a Private and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1940.
Robert enlisted with the First Kents as a Private and was promoted to Lieutenant when it was mobilized in 1940. He trained at various locations including Chatham, London, ON., Halifax, Niagara Falls and New Westminister, BC.
For a time, he was the Musketry Officer. Lieut. Bradley of the First Kent Regt. (AF) During his time in training, he was reported to be home from Westminister, BC. on furlough with his parents (date unknown). The CDN 27/02/43 reported that he was spending a few day leave with his parents.
Sub-Lieut. Bradley came with his daughter Patricia for a visit with his parents according to the Chatham Daily News CDN 14/09/44.
Robert served as the Honorary Lt. Col. Of the Essex & Scottish Regiment from 2004 to 2007. He was also a member of Rotary international.
He served in Canada with the First Kent Regiment until December 1942. He went Overseas, attached to the Essex Scottish Regiment, and served in France, and was promoted to Captain. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp.
The CDN 14/08/44 reported that he had been wounded in action 8 August, 1944 while in France. While wounded, he was hospitalized in both England and Canada.
Discharged August 3rd, 1944.
A long time resident of Dover Twsp. Robert passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance on Saturday, 8 Dec., 2007 at the age of 89. Interment in St. Thomas Anglican Church Cemetery, Dover Twsp., ON. CDN/10/12/07.
