Born 5/05/1897 in Dresden, ON. The son of James Monroe. His next of kin was his mother, Mary, of Dresden, ON. The Brother of Charles Munroe, Harry Ray, Russell Chauncy Samford Earl and William James. Dewey was living in Dresden prior to enlistment. He was a single Veterinary Assistant.   

He enlisted 23/02/1916 at Sombra, Lambton Co., ON. 23/02/16 at the age of 17 years. To the 149th Batt. served for 6 months. At the age of 15 years, 5’ 71/2”, girth: 35”, Complexion: Dark, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Dark Brown. He had a long scar on his left foot, running from the middle of his left foot, backward about 2 ½”. This medical done at Sombra.

Dewey enlisted a second time this time in Windsor, ON 4/07/17 now age 19 years 11 months to the 1st WOR. 8/11/17. He embarked in Canada 18/12/17 and arrived at Glasgow, Scotland 31/12/17 aboard the S.S. Messauhi. He arrived in France 2/06/18.

He served in Canada, England and France. He served with the CAMC 4/07/17. Received a GSW to the foot 27/09/18.

He returned to Canada 12/04/19 aboard the S.S. Olympic from Southampton. He was discharged from the Army 24/04/1919, at Windsor, ON.  receiving the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He served in the 149th Batt., 10 th.  Depot, 1st Batt., and 4th Batt. He had some birth dates 5/05/1897 and 5/05/1899. In total he served 38 months.
