Blight, Leslie Edwin

 

Born 27 July, 1918 in Ridgetown, ON. The son of Alfred Samuel Blight and Alice Marion (nee Paterson) Blight of Jarvis, Ontario, Canada. Leslie had an older brother an three much older half-siblings.

Leslie attended the University of Toronto and obtained a degree in pharmacy, and then worked as a chemist.

At the time of his enlistment with the RCAF (2 July, 1940), he was living in Jarvis, ON. After undertaking his basic training in Canada, he left for the UK. He received a commission to the rank of P/O on 11/02/1941, rising to ‘Acting F/O on 14/04/1942. F/O (temp) on 11/02/1942 and to F/Lt. (temp) on 11/02/43.  Frank Dutil.

Age:  25, KIA-Date of Death : 30/05/1943, Died in the crash of a Wellington bomber # HE 553. Crashed near Cotterick at Reeth, Yorkshire, England, along with P/O F. T. Dingwall. Also killed with flt. Lieut Blight was P/O(P) Fred Thompson Dingwall, and both are buried in Ripon Cemetery, Yorkshire, England.

Cemetery: RIPON CEMETERY. Flight Lieutenant Leslie Edwin Blight is also commemorated on the Bomber Command Memorial Wall in Nanton, AB.
