Blight, Arthur Bertram A

 

Private Arthur B. Blight trained with the 186th. Battalion, leaving Chatham, for overseas March 22nd, 1917. He was admitted to Hospital Shortly after his arrival, where he received treatment for five months, and was then attached to the Second Canadian Command Depot, Bramshott Camp.

 Cpl. Regimental number: 880055, Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 821-18, Item: 48994, PDF: B0821-S018. Date of Birth: 4/03/1898 at Warsaw, ON. Living in Ridgetown, ON. The son of Alfred Samuel Blight of Ridgtown. A single student.

Attestation: 16/02/1916 at Ridgetown. Age 18 years, 4 months, 5’ 93/4” Arthur embarked at Halifax, NS. aboard the S. S. Lapland 25/07/17. Disembarked at Liverpool, England 7/04/17. He had been promoted to A/Sgt. 21/04/17.

His first stop would be the Segregation Camp at Bramshot 7/04/17. He was TOS with the 4th Cdn. Reserve at Bramshot 20/04/17.  

Medical conditions would sideline Arthur. He was hospitalized at the Cdn. Convolescent Hospital – Bramshot 12/12/17. He would be back in the same hospital discharge 9/02/18. He would revert back to a Private to get over to France which he did joining the 18th Battalion at Estaples, France 20/04/18. He would be in active service with the 18th then “in the Field” 10/08/18. He was promoted to Cpl, 21/10/18.

The influenza (Spanish Flu) would take him to hospital in France 8/12/18 and he would be there until 21/12/18. He was transferred to England 27/12/18. Beside the flu he had an injury to his left arm and a wound to his knee and thigh and was hospitalized at Bear Wood Hospital, then to Witley 24/02/1919.

After his return to Canada he was discharged from the Army at No.1 District Depot, London, ON. 27/03/1919 age 21 years.
