Regimental number: 844108 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 780 – 26 Date of Birth 24/05/1892 at Walpole Island, Age: 22. Son of Mrs. William Blackbird of Walpole Island, children, Simon and Sophia. Complexion:  Dark, Hair: black, Eyes: brown. Distinctive mark after service – burn/scars on shoulder, neck and cheeks.A single farmer on Walpole Island.

Previous military experience 3 years with 26th Militia. Member of 26th Regt. Attestation: 7/02/1916 at Sarnia, ON to 149th Bn.

It was discovered Richard had a prior case of pulmonary tuberculosis. He was assigned to be treated for his various illnesses at LMH London Hospital. When he enlisted, he said he was unmarried but when he was discharged he said he was married.

He was discharged 31/01/1918 at London, ON. – medically unfit.
