Resident Palmyra

Rank: Nursing Sister.  Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 759 – 11, Item: 45228, PDF: B0759-SO11 Date of Birth 27/11/1889 at Palmyra, Kent Co. ON. Daughter of William and Amanda Bishop of  Palmyra, sister of Harvey Ross [3135101]. Nurse Bishop had no children and was unmarried. A nurse living at Palmyra. Member of C.A.M.C. Attestation: 2/02/1916 at Toronto, ON., age 26 years.  

Margaret had no previous military experience prior to her enlistment. She enlisted 2 February, 1916, at Toronto, ON. Margaret was considered “medically fit” for service for the Canadian overseas Expeditionary Force.

Margaret served in Canada, England and France with the Ontario Military Hospital CAMC No. 5 Canadian Stnt. Hospital as well as No. 2 Cdn. General hospital and No. 16 Cdn. General hospital 

She was TOS 10/04/1916 and was posted to the Ontario Hospital in Orpington 30/07/17. On 30 July 1917 Nurse Bishop proceeded overseas for service and was taken on strength in France officially 4 August, 1917.

Proceeded overseas for service in England. 4/08/17 nurse Bishop was TOS in France at the 3,C.S. Hospital. She would be granted a 14 day leave 4 /03/18. 

14 June, 1918 she returned to France. 17/06/18 she was stationed at the Adm. Krh. Military Hospital in Brighton, England. 24 /06/18 NS. Bishop was stationed at Adm. Canadian RX Hospital in Broghton, then discharged from that position. 26 June, 1918 Nursing Sister Margaret Bishop was examined at the Medical Board stationed at the Canadian Red Cross Special Hospital in Buxton, Derbyshire, and a report was filed for her apparent disability. She had a “nervous debility after the bombing in France”, which dated back to 6 June, 1918.

From there she was stationed  23/07/18 attached to the 16th CS. Hospital on CAMC Road. 28 September, 1918 she ceased to be attached to the 16th  the Canadian General Hospital.  In October 1918 cases commanded to 16th CS and struck off to that specific unit.

On 17/01/1919 Margaret was taken on posting from 16th General Hospital on command transferred duty to Canada. Margaret was struck off a posting to the CEF in Canada due to general demobilization 11/02/1919.
