Born in Dresden, ON. Roy was a veteran of the Great War. Prior to 1914, Roy served in the 24th Kent Regt. He enlisted with the 91st Bn. in St. Thomas and transferred to the RCOC 186th Battalion while going overseas. He was transferred to the 18th Battalion for service in France.  He was wounded in the arm while serving in France.

He enlisted in the First Kents when it mobilized. He transferred to the RCOC and went overseas shortly there after.

It was reported that Pte. Biddell was invalided home from overseas. CDN June/42 [day unknown]. Roy had been in England for 13 months before returning to Canada. He had been suffering from an ear ailment and he was returning to be an teacher of some kind. He expected to be stationed at Hamilton. CDN Jun. 1942[day unknown].
