Reported to have lived off the 4th Concession of Chatham Grove. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Benedict.
The WN 12/08/43 was home on leave from RCAF-Centralia on a leave. While training at various RCAF training facilities he occasionally got home to visit with his parents and at times other Benedict boys home on leave, as was the case in September 1943 when he and brother Elmer and his wife were also home on leave. WN 23/09/43 John was home again in November of 1943 this time on a week end leave from Centralia. WN 11/11/43 The CDN 17/12/43 reported that LAC Benedict on leave from RCAF – Centralia was on leave at his parents before leaving for Halifax.
He enlisted in 1942 and went overseas in 1944. John spent his first few months in England before going on active service. He saw service in France, Belgium, and Holland. After 14 months overseas, he arrived in Chatham just before the sun rose. He stayed with his parents, and he was delighted to, since he had last seen them in December 1943. John had to report to Toronto for a medical examination later in April. WN 12/04/45. His medical condition is unknown.
