Gunner Bell had enlisted in Chatham in the Army in June of 1942 and had gone overseas in June of 1943. He trained at BTC No. 12 Chatham, Woodstock and Petawawa.
Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the Ontario Steel Products Co. in Chatham.
Trained in Chatham and Petawawa where he took a course in motor mechanics. Transferred to Woodstock and then to Windsor then back to Petawawa. Went overseas and completed his course in mechanics. Went into action July 1944, was wounded in Normandy on the 8th of August. Was transferred to a military hospital in England.
The CDN 16/08/44(P) reported that Mrs. J. G. Bell of 174 Grand Avenue West, Chatham. (Before her marriage, she was Violet Lee of Chatham), had been notified that gunner Joseph Gaspard had been wounded in action while in France.
