Private Bedell was also a veteran of World War One, enlisting at the age of sixteen, and serving overseas with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in France and Belgium. He was wounded just a few hours before the signing of the Armistice on November 11th, 1918. He re-enlisted for World War Two, and was sent overseas with his unit, wounded in a bombing raid over England, and returned to Canada in March of 1943.
