Born in Pain Court and lived in Chatham. The only son of Olive (Tetreault) 7th Con. of Dover Twsp., Kent Co. and the late Adolphus Bechard. Joseph attended Blessed Sacrament school.
Joseph enlisted in London, ON. at the age of 18. He trained at Camp Petawawa, and from there, he was posted overseas. He had been stationed for three and a half years before being transferred to fight during the Normandy Invasion.
Olive received a letter from her son in which he said “everything was going fine and for her not to worry”. He had a brother-in-law Pte. Francis Demars, who was also serving in France.
