Batten, Norman Melvin

The son of William and Irene Batten, of 107 Arnold St., North brother of Douglas ‘Elroy’; Norman was born in 1919, location unknown. The husband of Gloria (2007), father of Bill, Jonathan, Doug and Shirley (1959). Norman and Gloria were married in the rectory of Christ Church, Chatham. CDN11/09/44(P)

Served 16 months in Canada. Went to Labrador in May 1943. Returned to Canada August 1944. Went to England January, 1945.

Discharged February 18th, 1946.

Norm served in the RCAF during WWII. After the war he was an employee of Western Equipment in Chatham for 35 years. Active in the community as a board member of Victoria Ave. UC., a Mason and Shriner and a president of the Chatham Granite club. 

Norman passed away 22 July, 2011 at the age of 91 years. Interment in Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
