Pte. Barker trained with the 24th Kent Regiment for over a year in Chatham.
He went overseas with the 70th battalion Apr. 8, 1916 and after seven weeks training at Shornecliffe crossed to France with the second draft from the 70th. transferring to the 19th battalion.
After Vimy Ridge he was returned to England suffering with trench feet, and six weeks later was married to Miss Bertha Ladd of Southwold.
He crossed again to France Aug. 26, 1918 and received gunshot wounds in the side. He died Aug. 27, 1918.
