Lieutenant Henry Ewart Banks served two years in the South African War.

Lieutenant Henry Ewart Banks sailed for England in December 1914, and transferred to the 23rd. Infantry Reserve Battalion June 2nd, 1915. He proceeded to France in October 1915 to the 14th. Battalion, R.M.R. At the Somme engagement in September 1916 he received wounds, returning to duty after hospital treatment, and was again wounded at Vimy April 9th, 1917. He was promoted to Captain in May 1917.

Lieutenant Henry Ewart Banks received his discharged February 10th, 1919, as medically unfit for military service through wounds.
