Pte. Bancroft trained six months with the 6th Lanchesters, Rochdale.
He arrived in England for overseas service Apr. 9, 1915 and trained at Folkstone until Sept. 1 when he crossed to France.
He was gassed and wounded Nov. 2nd after eleven months hospital treatment in England he was returned to Canada for further hospital treatment pending discharge.
Three months later, Jan 22, 1917, he died.
