Enlisted in the Kent Regt. 5 February, 1940 at Chatham, ON. at the age of 17. Known as “Bud” he trained at Chatham and other parts of Canada. He went overseas as reinforcements for the Essex Scottish Regt. He left for North Africa after three weeks in England. Saw action in Sicily with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regt. “Hasty Pats” as an anti-tank gunner. The “Hasty Pats” were in the spearhead of the Canadian advance into Italy where he was killed.
