Born in Tilbury, ON., the son of Edward and Elizabeth Baker of 132 Queen St., Chatham, ON. Prior to his enlistment Harvey Baker work on the linotype staff at the Chatham Daily News. The husband of June (nee Morrison).
L/Cpl. Baker and Pte. Jack McLaren of the First Kent Regt. were reported home on a furlough from New Westminster, BC. CDN 21/08/42.
Transferred from Kent Regiment to a Canadian Infantry Unit to go overseas in 1943, and served as a sergeant instructor 5 1/2 years. Was invalided home with a foot infection and later served as instructor at Farnham, Quebec and was later on sent back overseas again.
The WJ 5/01/43 reported Harvey was home from the west coast to spend a few days of furlough with his parents. The CDN 22/02/43 (P), reported that Cpl. Baker had arrived overseas.
The CDN 21/07/44 reported Sgt. Baker was stationed at Farnum, PQ. was in Chatham while on furlough at his home.
He was invalided back to Canada with a foot infection and completed his service as an instructor at Farnham, PQ.
He was discharged from the army 20/03/1946.
