Pte. Bain sailed Oct 21, 1915 with the 34th Battalion arriving at Plymouth Nov. 1.
After training at Bramshott he completed a course in bomb-throwing at Shorncliffe and transferred to the 23rd Reserve Battalion.
In May, Pte. Bain proceeded to France trasferring to the 2nd battalion taking part a the battle of Ypres.
He was again transferred to the 7th battalion and was wounded in the battle of the Somme near Pozieres Sept. 7.
He died of wounds Oct. 6, 1916 in Endale Military Hospital London England; age 20 years.
His remains were taken to Huntley Aberdeenshire Scotland, his native home and buried in the family cemetery.
