Private W.E. Atkinson trained in Canada with the 186th. Battalion, leaving Chatham as Corporal March 22nd, 1917. After a special course for N.C.O`s he went to France August 19th, 1917, and during severe fighting was gassed November 17th. He was admitted to hospital in England, and then again trained at Bramshott Camp with 2nd C.C.D. and from there was transferred to the 4th Res Battalion for duty on March 18th, 1918, was in training for about 3 months when he was transferred to a clerkship in Q.M.S. where he remained until he was transferred to Rhyl, Whale for discharging to Canada on February 9th,1919. Proceeded to Canada in S.S. Scotain and arrived at ondon arch 3rd, 1919, was given 14 days leave and reported for duty March 17th.
Discharged at London March 22nd owing to demobilisation.
