Regimental number: 6651 Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 260 – 31, Item: 14816, PDF: B0260-S031. Date of Birth: 5/06/1889 at the Parish of Stratford, London, England. Attestation: 17 (or 7th) ob/1914 at Chatham, ON. 5’ 11”, with the 1st Canadian Contingent C.A.M.C. He was a Ships Fireman before coming to Blenheim.    

Prior to his enlistment he was living in Blenheim, ON. and doing farm labour near Blenheim. He left Chatham for Valcartier, PQ. for training and completed his medical 22/09/14. Arrived in England 10/10/14 and trained at Salisbury Plain and went to France 8/02/15 with the 1st Cdn. Battalion.   

During the Battle at Givenchy 15/06/15 he received a GSW to the left leg and was returned to England for care and recovery. The GSW went through his left thigh 18/06/15, 3” above the knee and exited to the inner side. He was admitted to the University Hospital – Southampton, 21/06/16.  It was reported that his wound was healing well 2/07/15 and healed by 20/07 and he was well enough to be discharged  30/07/1915. He would still require some medical care at Cdn Convolescent Hospital – Monks Horton; Conv. Hospital Epsom 29/09/15 and discharged from Shorncliffe 4/10/15.

It was reported 24/01/1916 that he was complaining of weakness in his thigh, was very nervous though his physical condition appeared “fairly good”.  A “medical Board” would report that he was not fit for service duty but was able for light duty. 24/01/16 

He would marry Miss Ada Watkins (nee Lamb) then living at 18 Paul St., Brantford, London East, England in 1916 and she was awarded a ‘Separation allowance”
