John Andrews was a Pilot Officer (WAG.) for the Royal Canadian Air Force, 407 Sqdn. (Demon Sqd.). of Costal Command

John trained at Toronto, Hagerville, Guelph (WAG) and received his wings at Jarvis in August 1942. He served in Africa, India, Egypt and finally, in the United Kingdom.

Age: 25, DOAA –  Date of Death: 07/03/1945, Flying accident, Wellington bomber NC 848 crashed, Bedford, North Devon England.  Also killed were F/L (P) E. V. Duckworth and C. J. Butler.

P/O. Andrews was the second of three Ridgetown men to be lost in ten days of March 1945 including WO. Glen D. McVicar and Pte. Joseph Downey. CDN 16/03/45

Supplemental Information Born 3/09/1919 in County Derry, Ireland. Son of Robert Crawford Andrews and Margaret Sara Andrews and brother of Spr. David A. (A102833) of Blenheim, ON. John came to Canada with his parents and brother in 1928.He was schooled at Rushton Corners and English’s Public School, Blenheim High School and Ridgetown High School.
