The son of Mrs. M. Andrews of Poplar Street, Chatham Appears on the “Muster Roll” of the 2nd Bn., Kent Regiment (MG), N.P.A.N. (date unknown), service number A470111. Married and his wife was living at 102 ½ Harvey St., Chatham. Prior to his enlistment he was employed at the American Pad & Textile Co. on Richmond and Queen St. in Chatham.

James had been married for four years.  His wife thought the cable would be a remembrance of their wedding.

James  enlisted in May of 1942 with the Oxford Rifles.  The CDN 3/11/42(P) reported that Pte. Andrews had arrived safely in Britain. He was transferred to another unit when overseas. 

2nd Kents 2 years.

The CDN 3/11/42(P) reported that Pte. Andrews had arrived safely in Britain.

Transferred to Essex Scottish Regt as a L/Cpl. A82204.

The CDN of July 1944 reported that L/Cpl. was serving overseas.

The CDN reported just a couple of days  later and James had been wounded. His wife received the following telegraph:

“The minister of national defence sincerely regrets to inform you that Lance Corporal James Andrews has been officially reported wounded in action on the 21st of July, 1944. The nature and extent of his wounds are not yet available. When further information becomes available it will be forwarded to you as soon as received. 

His wife had only received two letters since he arrived on the continent. He only said he would soon be in active service

Served overseas in England, Holland, France and Germany. Was wounded and hospitalized three months.

The CDN 26/12/45 reported that he returned to Canada aboard the S. S. Queen Elizabeth.

Discharged February 8th 1946.
