Next of Kin: Thomas Allen (brother) of Wallaceburg, P.O. North Branch 10/09/16.  Date of Birth: 14/08/1871 at Huntley Twsp., Carlton Co., ON. N of K.- James – Blacksmith.  Allen, (1st cousin) of Almonte House, Wellington St., Ottawa.  A single Blacksmith, William was living at R. R. # 4 Wallaceburg, ON. with his brother Thomas. No previous Military training.  Attestation: 20/06/1916 or 2/10/1916 at Ottawa, ON. with the 238th Forestry Bn.

Apparent age:  William was 55 yrs. or 48 yrs. of age when he enlisted. Height: 5’ 10 ½”, Girth: 39”, Weight  160#,  Complexion: Fair, Eyes: Brown, Hair: Grey – had a scar on his right leg. Medical “Fit”. 2/10/1916 at Willey Camp in England, age 48 yrs. when he embarked at Halifax 11/09/16, Disembarked :at Liverpool. 22/09/16 

Private W.J. Allen trained with the Kingston Volunteers as Private.

Medical at Armories with Debility – Arteries Calcauous – General condition Sclerosis, causes weakness (Single).   

He arrived in Liverpool, England (age 54 yrs.) on 22/09/16 and proceeded to Witley Camp from there he would go to Scotland where he worked at this trade as a blacksmith in a lumber camp. Examination at Sunningdale complaining of Myalgia in back and legs, also “Bleeding” Piles. He had poor defective eye-sight. 20/07/17 – Then fit to return to Duty. 23/07/17 William contracted stiffness – left hip – Returned to his unit 25/07/17 – Discharge.

TOS Buxton – Embarked for Canada fro Liverpool 6/11/17. Cdn Forest Corp 3rd Scottish – Gen. Glasgow for “Myalia” Disc, 25/07/17 Sailed from Liverpool aboard the S.S. Olympic 6/11/17 – Disposal. 

He was admitted to the Queen’s Mil. Hosp. – Admission.

Sent to Sunningdale to Buxton in Canada. Disc. 2 March 1918. Discharged 20/02/18 – Class 3 – Medically unfit . Last Pay:- $395.87 – Cheque # 8059.  

Private W.J. Allen received his discharge at Kingston, Ontario, February 25th, 1918, being medically unfit for further military service.  25/02/18 age 54 yrs. Date of Discharge : Being Medically unfit for further service. 

It was noted that Pte. Allen was Deceased 16/11/1939 (649-A-2865)
