Private Hilliard Allen trained with the 186th. Battalion, embarking for England the latter part of March 1917. He trained at Bramshott Camp until July 1st, when he was admitted to Hospital at Bearwood, suffering with rheumatism, and later to Buxton, being discharged from here October 13th. Private Allen was transferred to the W.O.R.D. and crossed to France October 20th, where he was attached to the Canadian Labour Battalion Transport Section.
