Returning from O/S duty

Regimental number: 123357 Reference:  RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 96 – 42, Item #: 5788 PDF: B0096-S042. Date of Birth 25/01/1894 at Bristol, England. Son of Mrs. A. Evans of Bristol, 21 Stanley Terrace West St, Bedminster, England. Mother as the only living relative. Single and living in Chatham, ON. Trade/Calling: Spinner. Single, age 21 years.

Member of 24th Kent Regt. Attestation: 16/09/1915 at Chatham, ON. to 70th Bn. George stood at 5’2, Complexion, eyes, hair: Dark, Hazel, Black

Date/place of enlistment: September 15, 1915 in Chatham, Ontario with the 70th Battalion

He sailed on the S.S. Lapland to Shornecliffe on April 26, 1916.  He was transferred to the 39th Battalion in July of 1916.  He was drafted to the 4th Battalion in France. He was wounded while serving with the 4th Battalion in France on September 10, 1916.  He rejoined his unit on September 17.

He was awarded one Good Conduct Badge on November 3, 1917.  After this, he was granted 14 days leave, and then he rejoined on December 8, 1917. 

March 8, 1919 he was granted another 14 day leave. On March 10, 1919 he was struck off the 4th Battalion and he was then taken on the 1st CORW at Witley. 

On April 17, 1919 he was struck off to the CORW in Rijou.
He was hospitalized at the Witley/Surrey Hospital on March 25, 1919 for defective vision.  It appears as if this defective vision was hereditary and was not caused in service.

*While serving in the 4th Battalion Infantry, George James was entitled to Medals for his service in France, Belgium, and Germany.  This memo was recorded in London, Ontario.

Discharge: May 17, 1919 due to general demobilization. Returning from O/S duty. CDP 20/05/19 /R. Hague.
