Lorne was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer E. Jackson of Wheatley, ON. Lorne was married and had two children when he enlisted with the Queen’s Own Rifles in 1940. Lorne had three brothers, William, Allan and Omar.
He saw action during the Battle for Caen, the Falaise Gap and Boulogne wher on 17/09/1944 while Lorne was giving first aid to a German soldier who had been wounded in the head a German shot Lorne in the left arm which had to be amputated just below the elbow. He was reported repatriated to Wheatley apparently recovered from his injuries 3 January, 1945. CDN. 3/01/45.
After the war Lorne had three more children, drove a semi-truck and did “just about everything”. He died of a heart attack in 1979. B. Siddle.
