Reference: RG 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 9802 – 56 Date of Birth 07/08/1887 at Tupperville, Chatham Twsp., Kent Co., ON. N of K: John R. Trumpour of Cherry Hill, ON., brother of James [16704].  A clerk. Attestation: 23/09/1914 at Valcatier to the 7th Bn., “F” Coy.

Samuel was a member 5th Royal Highlanders of Montreal at Valcatier until departure on 27/09/1915 with the 1st British Columbia Regt. He arrived in England 14/10/1914, trained at Salisbury Plain until 9/02/15 when he moved to Poigstreet, Belgium and saw active service until 24/04/1915 when he was wounded and taken POW at the 2nd Battle of Ypres.

Lance Corporal Sam S. Trumpour trained ten months with the 5th. Royal Highlanders, Montreal.  Lance Corporal Sam S. Trumpour left Valcartier September 27th, 1914, with the 1st. British Columbia Regiment, arriving in England October 14th. He left Salisbury Plains February 9th, arriving at Poigsteert, Belgium, and was in active service until wounded and made prisoner at the 2nd Battle of Ypres, April 24th, 1915.

He was sent to Paderborne in Westphalia, Germany on April 28th, receiving hospital treatment until February 4th, 1916, when he was interned as a POW in the Senne Prison Camp, transferring June 1st. 1916, to Mannheim Prison Camp, Grand Darchy of Baden arriving there 1/06/16 , to awaiting interment in Switzerland.,. “Camp life in Germany, (reported in the CDP 14/01/1918 Cpl. Trumpor stated) was one long monotony of barbed wire, sand, roll calls and semi-starvation, if the parcels from the red Cross did not arrive regularly. The German rations were insufficient and very unpalatable and were eaten only when food parcels were not available from England”.

He arrived at Muiren, Switzerland, August 12th,1916, was admitted to hospital at Lucerne November 3rd, 1916, and May 1st, 1917, began a course at L’Ecole De Commerce De Neuchatel. August 23rd, 1917, he was exchanged to England and left Liverpool for Canada October 17th, 1917, arriving at Halifax October 25th.

Lance Corporal Sam S. Trumpour received his discharge January 22nd, 1918, at Guelph Military Hospital, being medically unfit for further military service. From there he was sent to the Military Hospital at Guelph, ON where he was discharged from the army 22/10/1917 as “Medically Unfit for Military Service.  Samuel was reported spending a few days with his aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Trumpour of Thames St., Chatham in January of 1918.
