The son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Hazel Torrance of Merlin, Raleigh Twsp., Kent Co., ON.  The brother of Elizabeth (Duke), Donna (Welch), Glen, Ruby (Gould) and Claire.

Randall enlisted in the Army 4/08/1940 with the 1st Kent Regt.  The Merlin Standard 20/03/41, reported that Randall was home on a week-end leave.  He was reported serving overseas in 1943 and was wounded in action with shell wounds in his left arm, chest and groin.

He was serving in the Highland Light Infantry on D-Day. Was wounded while in France in action with shell wounds in his left arm, chest and groin (19/07/44). The CDN Aug. 44(P) reported that he was wounded in action while serving in France. 

He was reported serving overseas in 1943. He was serving in the Highland Light Infantry on D-Day. Was wounded while in France in action with shell wounds in his left arm, chest and groin (19/07/44) MS 20/07/44. The CDN Aug. 44(P) reported that he was wounded in action while serving in France, 8 July, 1944. The MS 17/08/44 reported that it was during an attack on the little village of Buron, France. ”There were groves and or orchards, little stone walls and homes had been converted by the Germans to one of a series of positions protecting Caen.”

“The Ontario battalion over came the village position which was surrounded with machine gun nests and was focal point of a fierce enemy bombardment wit mortar bombs and shells.  It was during this action that Pte. Torrance was wounded. 

It was reported (MS) that the staff at Lewis Restaurant began packing a box for Randall ‘on receipt of the news’ With the help from local people two large boxes of comforts were soon on their way overseas 

The MS 27/07/44(P) reported that word had been received that Randall’s injuries were not serious. “A shell fragment wounds to his left arm, left chest and left groin. Though painful they were not serious. He expected to be “around again in a about a month” 

Randall married Isobell Mary (nee Cherry).

Randall passed away in 1991.
